No Worries

Good afternoon, friends, this is Pastor Don. I suppose you already have heard the news: Punxsutawney Phil, the most famous groundhog of all time and the star prognosticator of winter’s end, did NOT see his shadow and so we must prepare for six more weeks of winter weather before spring shows up. Did I hear a groan from you? Our only hope is that whoever has declared that Phil is wrong 60% of the time is more trustworthy than Phil! We actually have some green sprouts pushing up the soil near our back door. Or was that groan actually a sigh of relief?

It’s funny how often things over which we have absolutely no control, tend to control us – our minds and our hearts. I expend far too much energy worrying about things like that, don’t you?

It probably seems too simplistic, but the prophet Isaiah must have encountered this problem long before Jesus came on the scene. His advice seems still quite relevant. He said in chapter 26, You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

And Jesus, when he arrived, said in the sermon on the Mount: Matthew 6:

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Of course, that is all easier said than done, but it’s a good reminder to us all for today.

Let’s Pray: God of this very moment, help us to live this moment in your company with gratitude. Amen.
