Hello friends, this is Pastor Don. Sunday, I preached on one of my favorite characters in the life of Jesus. He is the tax collector who cheated the people from whom he collected and made himself wealthy. That’s not why I like him! I first was intrigued by him because he was probably the only person in the Bible who was identified as short. I know something about short! His name was Zacchaeus.
Zacchaeus’ life was a first class mess. Everything was out of order and he was miserable, but when he came face to face with the kind eyes of Jesus, he knew that was the time for him to change direction! I am so impressed with a person who is not only willing to admit their own destructive choices, but who also has the courage to seek the one who can realign their priorities and get them in touch again with the God who created them.
That kind of move takes courage and strength of character. When Zacchaeus made that move to realign his life, he didn’t seem short any longer. To me he had gained in stature in a way that really counts.
My experience is that those “realignment” moments happen again and again in one’s spiritual journey. It’s part of growing, I think. And pretty soon, one begins to see them as evidence of life as a follower of Jesus.
LET’S PRAY: Loving God, this journey you have us on is full of adjustments. Help us see them as a sign of your abundant love. Amen
