A Message from Our Council President

Happy December! Being not exactly a winter enthusiast, I have always liked this poem written by Oliver Herford in the early
twentieth century:

I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.

“We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,”
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.

Isn’t it great to live in Ohio, where the seasons change so regularly?! And where you always know that a new set of weather and plant life is right around the corner.

And so it goes here at St. John’s. We have come to the end of our church year, and we’re almost at the end of our fiscal year. To wrap things up and prepare for the year ahead, we have scheduled two congregational meetings. The first will convene immediately following worship on Sunday, December 12. We will look at, discuss, change if necessary, and approve the 2022 budget, which you should have received.

And we are extremely hopeful that we can go back to our good old Annual Meeting right after worship on January 23. You remember that: we all bring a covered dish to share and we eat lunch together before we discuss the issues facing St. John’s in the year ahead. More information will be coming your way early in January. This month I extend special Christmas blessings to all of you, as well as wishes for your safety and good health as we continue to “do church” together.
