Delicate Balance

Good afternoon, friends. This is Pastor Don from St. John’s UCC. I started this little message yesterday. I was sitting here in the church office surrounded by signs of activity. Glenn was next door working on some part of the Gathering Place. Several people were here in the Fellowship Hall where they were laying plans for the Trick or Treat and Eat event. I’m leading a “Made to Worship ” team meeting this afternoon and Mary Ann and I have a gathering of close to 10 young adults this Friday.

I am so thankful for the way so many of you have stepped up to assume roles of leadership and responsibility for various things at St Johns lately! I’ve been right here in the office watching the level of activity increase since we have resumed meeting in person on Sundays.

I am so aware of this delicate balance between saying “yes” to new responsibility and letting go of one responsibility to tend to yourself or your family. It’s not easy and I understand! Last Sunday I talked about doing our part and having the backs of others who are taking leadership roles. This coming Sunday, I’ll be talking about how important it is for us leaders to share responsibility – to distribute it rather than hold it tightly to ourselves. So, there is this tension between “stepping up” and “letting go.” I trust that you will be responsive to that inner voice who wants to guide your steps

LET’S PRAY: O God, you who desire only the best for us, help us to listen and carry out your guiding counsel. Amen.
